Protoceratops andrewsii original sculpture. ~1:7. 2014.
This was made as a gift to a dino enthusiast first grader in the family, so eyecatchiness and untippability were given priority over scientific accuracy. Indeed it has next to nil educational value - or usefulness as a toy for its sprawling pose, I expect. It's really a winsome model only if you're playing Sport the Paleoart Cliché on it: lazily cross-hatched elephantine skin shrink-wrapped over an emaciated, pointlessly open-jawed body on oversized feet - and the lot comes presented in unviably bright colours on a well-caffeinated action pose. Should qualify. I'm hoping that the recipient kid, growing up to learn more about dinosaurs and their popular depictions, will eventually at least see the humour in his little Protoceratops. |
A mob of meerkats (Suricata suricatta), customised from Schleich suricates with an additional pup in original sculpture (the leftmost, eerily humanoid blob). Roughly 1:12 scale. 2014.
They were cobbled together in the course of two days as a surprise gift for my mother, and have been painted deliberately quite graphically to compensate for her failing eyesight. The base is my first attempt at a diorama footing, and has sand too dark and coarse. |
A batch of wee cat brooches donated to raise funds for Kissojen suojelu - Kisu Ry, a Finnish volunteer association helping stray cats in need.
Each brooch is unique, handpainted, signed and numbered. I had some difficulty counting to six, so one of them is numbered 0/6. I think I got my name right on most at least. Shown last is the original sculpture. 2014. |
OSS The Tick, Breyer Keltec Salinero extensively resculpted into a Tennessee Walking Horse stallion. Intended as an older "performance horse" moved off his packages, hence the hind end mechanics. The person who commissioned the model wished I sculpt the model stylized akin to my drawings.
The model has weighted front shoes with turnback caulks and hind shoes with clips and trailers. All shoes have sculpted-on wear to them. He was done hair-prepped but has sculpted-on eartip tufts and a sculpted bridle path. The shaven fetlocks have ergots visible. A bit of a waste of a good Salinero, really - the only parts left visible of the original mold are its flanks and the shanks of its legs. 1:9. 2013. Went to a collector in the USA. |
Breyer Wixom extensively resculpted into a young, show-braided draught mare. Her front shoes have rockered toes but are not Scotch bottoms; all of her shoes have sculpted-on wear to them. Shown here without her base. Went to the USA.

Nabil Al-Jawn, HA / Ed Gonzales Asad resin to a black sabino rabicano Arabian stallion with wedge padded show shoes in the front, rim pads in the back. Traditional scale (1:9).
All of the minor customization as well as the majority of the paintwork were done in 2007, but the model was only finished proper mid-2011. The watermarked pictures have been taken by Maya Pyy and are used with permission. The presentation set was made by Jennifer Shelby. |
Hushpuckena Holy Man, Sarah Rose Mini Independence resin customised to a chestnut "medicine hat" sabino Tennessee Walking Horse gelding with "packages" or stacked front shoes, pastern chains, braids & a set tail. His hind shoes have trailers; the mane braids are string.
Large Stablemate scale (~1:30). Has won several BIS, BIS R and Champion titles at Fennoscandian live shows. This one remains in my own collections. |
